Old Theories Dead On! Samsung renews license agreement with Tessera
I wish I could remember which of the oldtimers here made the constant argument that TSRA would be able to renew licenses beyond the expiration dates of the most important patents in their portfolio, but they were apparently right! Congratulations! I still don't understand it, but this seems to confirm.
Hynix renewed on schedule also. In a rational market this would justify about a 10% up move. We don't have a rational market.
The major significance of these 2 big on-schedule renewals is that they seem to explain Tessera's low key response to the small non-renewals earlier in the year. Presumably, negotiating resources were limited and these key customers got the lion's share.
>renew licenses beyond the expiration dates of the most important patents in their portfolio
That would explain the size of the pop. However, based on the PR there is no way of knowing this is actually the case. The licensing agreement may have separate royalties specified for each of several patents, due only as long as each of the patents is in force.
