You've seen the announcement. Obviously it's bad news. The two distinctive features of Micron are that it has substantial US manufacturing capacity and it is exclusively a memory producer. Less distinctively, Micron appears extremely proud of its 3D packaging technology.
From one of the numerous PR's and articles out this morning:
"The San Jose, Calif. company also said that Micron Technology Inc. did not exercise the renewal option in its 2006 license agreement.
Tessera, however, said it would not publicly comment on the ongoing business discussions with its customers, including Micron."
To my eyes, that's a clarification of the hard to understand statement they made last week pertaining to how much info they were going to share in the future - note the above says Micron did not renew the 2006 license, but the 2nd para hints that they may still be having discussion about a new license with terms likely more favorable for Micron?
