According to Jeff Beck, the COO, iRobot is seriously looking at introducing a robotic lawnmower. The competition, Honda's Miimo as an example, uses a boundary wire just like one of those electronic dog fences. Do you want to dig a perimeter ditch around your yard, then bury the wire before you can unleash your robotic lawnmower? iRobot's lawnmower will not rely on a perimeter wire but more advanced mapping technology to control the lawnmower. No ditch digging for iRobot customers!!!
They'll kill the competition. Consumers have learned to trust the iRobot brand when it comes to autodriven consumer products.
I believe there will be two announcements before the year is up:
1) An iRobot lawnmower.
2) Another partner for the AVA 500, either a security application or a retail store application.
thought of that too.....see someone already wrote the company. I think it's a great idea and a natural extension. Hopefully we'll see more products for the consumer space come to fruition over time.......GLTA
I wrote I-robot about this same topic last year and got no response from them. Then I saw that Honda has some I-Lawn Mowers. It might be a patent issue or they just don't want to go down that road. Not sure exactly ?
