For awhile, you can buy a desktop computer or a laptop for around $600, which in most cases is plenty for the average user, and for which you already paid for an operating system.
Microsoft wants people to fork $200 for the full Windown 7 or $100 for the upgrade, which can represent 30% of the cost of a computer and for which computer there was already at least 20% of the original cost going for the OS.
If Microsoft had been a car manufacturer, with all the junk they have produced for years (Windows Me, 2000, XP, Vista) at the insane price they sold then, and with all the updates equivalent to recalls on their softwares, this company without its monopoly would be either out of business or at the bottom of the ocean like GM and Chrysler.
That company is insane with their price and their crap operating systems.
"Microsoft wants people to fork $200 for the full Windown 7 or $100 for the upgrade, which can represent 30% of the cost of a computer"
Which mean nothing. The are unrelated. The OS makes the computer usable. Look at printers, the ink can easily cost more then 50% of the printer. Still you can't print without ink.
Microsoft has reduced the cost of software greatly. Without a company like Microsoft there wouldn't be the massive PC market there is today. There would be PCs, but they would cost a great deal more than they do today.
If you think $200 is too much to pay for an old computer, then buy a new one and give your old one away to a school or something useful.
Your bitching isn't useful.
"Microsoft has reduced the cost of software greatly. Without a company like Microsoft there wouldn't be the massive PC market there is today."
You must be kidding.
Most parts of a computer have seen a huge decrease in price over the years, except for the operating system and the softwares produced by MSFT.
The processor, the flat screen panel, the graphic card, the hard drive, the sound card, etc., all of them are so much more powerful for a lot less money than before, safe the OS of MSFT that keeps the price of any computer to go lower.
That OS which is supposed to do simple tasks for years like networking or starting softwares and is barely doing it properly with thousands of program lines.
BS - Microsoft stole a lot from IBM and Burroughs not to mention Apple - learn the history before you spout garbage.....Microsoft is PURE FRAUD and bait and switch because they offer you a carrot then the stick if you don't upgrade...FOK THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you on the Price, by far a little steep but then again when you talk about it being 30% of the cost of a new computer you also have to realize that the OS does probably about 30% of the work needed to run the computer. Now my big issue is your Analogy to a car company and recalls. OS updates are most often the direct resulst for security updated because there are melicious people and programs constantly creating new ways to wreak havoc on your computer where though there are theives and valdals that may go after your car, the methods they use haven't much changed and neither is the shear number of attacks anything compared to the computer industry.
"Now my big issue is your Analogy to a car company and recalls...because there are melicious people "
You are trying to blame hackers or crooks for MSFT problems. If a car manufacturer would have constantly bad parts in their engine, coming from outside subcontractors, at one point either they would have to change subcontractors or face bankruptcy.
Either your product is rock solid or it is so weak that anything coming from outside can jeopardize its purpose of driving you somewhere.
MSFT keeps saying that security and quality are their priority, but the reality is completely different.
I bought a MSFT wireless mouse and Keyboard and frankly they are the most problematic mouse and keyboard I have had since I started buying desktops in 1993. I need to go back to a tethered mouse...how can a company that makes such crappy products survive...besides the monopoly, you will have to admit Microsoft Office is the best suite around for years.
I used to run a Service Bureau and we had all the software and the Office Suite is the best just like Filemaker and Adobe Suite are the best in their area. Truthfully, in this business you need just one good product and all the rest can be mediocre at best.
Does everyone absolutely hate the BING pop up on some websites? You are in the process of clicking your search link and suddenly appearing is a Bing popup...
I cannot decide whether MSFT is a put or call play for earnings...according to the chart they are due for a short term correction of 7-10% and it appears that the chart is running most of these plays...so perhaps a near term sell is the play.
