Why doesn't Ballmer pounce on a cheap and wounded YHOO?? He...
...offered $33 three years ago when Alibaba was worth much less. He could pick YHOO up for much less now and with the synergies with Bing, and what can be done with AG IPO, make a ton of money for MSFT. Has Ballmer lost his nerve and mojo? Like Midas just sitting on all that cash.
Well then why was Ballmer so willing to buy YHOO three years ago that he raised the price? He deserves no credit for the deal not happening. And with the market collapse, and YHOO's poor choice of CEO (Bartz), it did turn out a lucky move that MSFT did not buy them then. Although even if they had they would have still benefited from the synergies with Bing and the now greatly increased value of Alibaba. And that is why MSFT should now buy YHOO for a MUCH lower price. The same reasons it was a good plan in 2008 are still there now but the Asia assets are worth much more and YHOO can be picked up for much less.
Ballmer offered $47 bil for YHOO 3 years ago when there were more shares outstanding, less YHOO cash, less MSFT cash, and Alibaba was worth much less (Taobao sales were 10% of what they are now) Now he can buy it for $30 bil and could get losts of support from YHOO holders if he had to go hostile against that little twerp Yang.
I personally don't see any advantage that MSFT would gain (that is doesn't already enjoy) from buying out YHOO,no offense but one of the smartest things Ballmer has done was not to buy YHOO, the ony advantage would be to benefit shareholders that bought YHOO at a high price.
