"The latest move is one again around that unloved child of Redmond that has seen abysmal sales. No not Windows 8, the other unloved child of Redmond, the Surface tablet. You might recall the highs and lows of Surface, and the soap opera it has become. This week, Microsoft has admitted their strategy is broken, Surface is failing, and so they backpedalled hard. Unfortunately, it was right over the feet of all the hardware partners that they had run over earlier, the ones they barely kept from outright rebellion a few months ago."
Lenovo has three convertible form factors, the Twist, the Yoga, and the X Series. The Yoga actually resembles the Surface but is a convertible. The Surface, compared to a convertible, has to be assembled on a table-top for keyboard use.
The problem with the convertibles is that they weigh about 3.5 pounds. Now Samsung has a 13.3" Series 9 laptop that weighs about 2.6 pounds. So the obvious thing to do is a Samsung 11.6" Series 9 convertible.
Of course many are insisting that the price point is about $500. But doesn't a really good computer cost more like $1000 ?
Now Samsung has some popular detachable tablets. The ATIV 500T, at $750, is for longer battery life while the ATIV 700T, at $1200, is for higher performance. But both will run Photoshop. Of course these detachable tablets are low in weight when detached from the keyboard.
HP has a Elite Pad 900 tablet scheduled for January while Lenovo has a Thinkpad 2 tablet not yet available.
