LAS VEGAS Jan 8 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp has sold 60 million licenses and upgrades for its new Windows 8 operating system in the 10 weeks since its launch, one of the top executives of the company's Windows unit said at the Consumer Electronics Show on Tuesday.
The sales are in line with those of Windows 7, Microsoft's last operating system launched in 2009, said Tami Reller, chief financial officer of the Windows division.
Let us do the numbers: 60Million windows 8 + 60Million Windows 7 = 120Million * $40/seat (minimum) = 4.8Billion just on Dec Quarter Windows license sales. Add prior Q deferred to be recognized of $800Million that makes it 5.6Billion. Then add any and all Surface RT sales. Surface sold a minimum of 800K units. At 600ASP/unit for a total 480M minimum. Conservatively 6Billion from Windows & Windows Live division and that is a 87% growth sequentially and 27% growth year over year. The first time Winows division growing that much in three years.... looking for fireworks after earnings!!! [Note Microsoft already said they had some great sales on HALO4, Xbox etc... again let us see the fireworks on Jan24th after earnings
