You're bent! Thousands of jobs to finish construction of the pipeline until it has been completely buried. Then a smaller group of workers in order to keep everything working properly. The pipeline is actually more environmentally safe than shipping oil by rail. Shipping oil by rail is a very dirty process. I should know, I worked for the railroad for 32 years. I might add that Warren Buffett bought a major stake in the Railroad that will be shipping the oil from Canada through America. Also, habitats will be completely restored, so well, that Nebraska's Sand Hills Cranes won't ever know they're walking over a pipeline that leads to the Gulf of Mexico. It won't bother them so it won't bother me. I'm concerned about the environment, too. And Obama? Well, all he's after is to make America weaker. You can buy oil from a close friend like Canada or you can buy oil from countries that hate America, like Venezuela and Saudia Arabia. Let's buy it from America's friend. What do yeah say!
We need to keep the gov't out of the free mkt. Gov't and gov't jobs does not create wealth. The main area of our economy that DOES create wealth is: Food, commodities and manufacturing. Think about it. All of the baloney the gov't is involved in simply is bleeding the country.
Starting in about 1946, gov't rules, regulations and laws along with unions our mf'g companies started going overseas. The first big company was Singer Sewing Machine. At that time 100% of the sewing machines were manufactured here, today we manufacture none. Wealth is gone. IMHO.
Considering how many full time jobs that #$%$ in the WH has lost, fifty new full time jobs will look good. Obama is the king of part time, underemployment jobs and the creation of more and more parasites.
The whole purpose of the XL pipeline is to end the oil glut in the center of North America and thereby raise prices to OPEC levels. Red Staters will get screwed the most as the price of gas pops 40 cents a gallon, and costing untold #s of jobs as an additional 30-50 million dollars a day is sucked out of their economy.
No need for Keystone in the US at all. Let Canadians keep their Keystone jobs in Canada. Canada can build their own pipeline east and west so they can destroy their own environment instead of destroying the US environment.
The Keystone pipeline completion will increase the price Canada gets for it's Tar Sands Oil and increase the profit margin for the Gulf Coast refinery's . That is why the Big Oil Lobbyists are working so hard for it.
BTW the Chinese also stand to profit as they have over $40 Billion invested in Canadian Tar Sands.
Other than a small number of temporary jobs, I see nothing about the Keystone pipeline that benefits the U.S. The oil will be sold on the world market, it's not for our use. The profits go to a Canadian company. We assume all the risk of leaks and spills, which WILL happen. There was a pipeline leak into the Kalamazoo river 3 1/2 years ago, and it still has not been cleaned up.
Canada has refineries. Canada has sea ports. And they are all closer to the source of the oil than the Gulf Coast. Let Canada incur the risks. Or maybe they don't want to.
