Today's tragedy proves that the stockpiles at nitrogen fertilizer production plants are timebombs waiting to tear our communities apart. They should stop production and sell off inventory until local governments have time to conduct full safety inspections and possibly demmand that the plants be moved away from population centers.
Stop production? I suppose the world should tighten thiers belts and just eat what comes from their organic victory gardens? Too idealistic and naive.
As for proximity to population centers; ever look at an aerial of the RNF nitrogen/ammonia facility? Its pretty-well isolated from East Dubuque.
Not to mention this is like the first major accident at a fertalizer plant in 40 years still safer then many other industries. Would we shut down all the arlines just incase an airplane might crash on someones house? Unfortunatly these accidents happens, but going back to the stone ages isnt the answer either.
