It isn't a matter of being "forced" to report the information, if they stopped all reporting, it makes them look even worse. Far better to continue business as usual, report the results of the quarter, even if unaudited.
If the business is legitimate, then normal continued reporting, a new CFO, a new auditor, all run to support a normal business. Otherwise, it makes it look like Muddy Waters was right all along. Continued reporting makes it look like Muddy Waters was making it all up.
