    Allstate back in lawsuit

Allstate has been put back into a lawsuit that alleges that insurance companies overbilled the National Flood Insurance Program after Hurricane Katrina by misclassifying damage as flood damage so that the government would pay for it. Allstate and State Farm were severed from the suit, which was brought by a group of former insurance adjusters known as the Branch Consultants, by the court ruling in 2007. On Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Sarah Vance reversed a magistrate judge's ruling and said a second amended complaint that Branch filed in December 2009 was legitimate. That second amended complaint names Allstate, putting the state's second largest private residential insurer back in the suit. State Farm was not subject to the revised complaint.
