etter from Benjamin Franklin to Ezra Stiles Benjamin Franklin March 9, 1790
I was reviewing Jon's put down of Ben Franklin. Seems he feels his pants on fire award for his factoid history was not earned. Nor can the history channel be replied upon for anything pertaining to our Founding National Philosophy, now by countless example.
But was Ben Franklin Little Jon's heathen delusion?
Letter from Benjamin Franklin to Ezra Stiles
March 9, 1790
"Here is my Creed: I believe in one God, Creator of the Universe. That He governs it by his Providence. That he ought to be worshipped. That the most acceptable Service we can render to him, is doing Good to his other Children. That the Soul of Man is immortal, and will be treated with Justice in another Life respecting its Conduct in this. These I take to be the fundamental Principles of all sound Religion, and I regard them as you do, in whatever Sect I meet with them. As to Jesus of Nazareth, my Opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the System of Morals and his Religion as he left them to us, the best the World ever saw, or is likely to see; but I apprehend it has received various corrupting Changes, and I have with most of the present Dissenters in England, some Doubts as to his Divinity: tho' it is a Question I do not dogmatise upon, having never studied it, and think it needless to busy myself with it now, when I expect soon an Opportunity of knowing the Truth with less Trouble."
Ben was not a Christian. But he was a follower of Jesus' teaching or philosophy. Plus our Founders did hold Religious Services on government property and attended religiously. Poor Little Jon at this time of year. Mr. O was correct again and if not for the untold riches he makes by mocking him, would be completely out in the cold being chased by the secular pagans for their solstice sport.
He really could have done something much more accurate with his Christmas past and Christmas future scat.
So perhaps little Jon would like to take a moment to contemplate how little his audience actually knows. How little they think. How easily he profits from their condition. Last thing they need is altered history to fill the void of what they did not learn in primary school.
I do like Little Jon. We should all take this seasonal opportunity to pray for him! Well those Americans who can agree with Ben's thoughts on "These I take to be the fundamental Principles of all sound Religion".
