I don't know about the others, but Alan Mulally drives a different car every week. Sometimes it is a Chysler, sometimes a Toyota, sometimes a VW. He drives the competition's cars so that he knows what they are doing, why their customers like their cars, and more. In the past Executives would only drive products that were owned by Ford (Even if they were Jags and Land Rovers). Because of this they did not have a clue of what the competition was like and this put them at a disadvantage.

I think that is outstanding. We used to have competitive products around for evaluation, but the use of these vehicles left something to be desired. Our engineering guys did extensive teardown analysis, but I'm like you, nothing better than getting in the car and driving them.
