Mountain View-based Synopsys (NASDAQ:SNPS), which focuses on software and IP for semiconductor design, had revenue of $386.8 million, compared to the year-ago quarter's $336.9 million.
"Synopsys delivered strong revenue, earnings per share, and cash flow in the third quarter, and we are confident that we will exit fiscal 2011 with a great deal of strength," said Aart de Geus, chairman and CEO. "Design activity continues unabated, driven by demand for mobile devices, cloud infrastructure, and electronics content in many every-day products."
Excluding items, Synopsys would have earned $68.1 million, or 46 cents a share, compared to non-GAAP income in the same quarter last year of $58.2 million, or 39 cents a share.
Analysts expected, on average, earnings of 43 cents on revenue of $382.44 million.
Looking forward, the company expects fourth quarter revenue of $386 million to $392 million, with earnings of 44 cents to 46 cents a share.
