Flynn on fusion....He’s optimistic Robison is on track to fix things....Flynn still in as shareholder
Flynn has “no hard feelings” toward Fusion, and is still a shareholder. He clearly left at the board’s behest, but he also observes with the smile that some of the changes going on at the company now are things he would like to have done himself but was not able to while there. In particular, Robison is placing a greater emphasis on selling gear through resellers, versus the company’s traditional model of going direct. Fusion got big fast with a radical product for attaching NAND flash memory chips to servers to speed up data access. Early on, it had two very large customers, Apple (AAPL) and Facebook (FB), which used the technology to build their data centers.
While they were great customers to have, “They became a crutch” for the company, says Flynn, preventing Fusion from building its indirect sales channel. He’s optimistic Robison is on track to fix things.
Yeah Flynn should have fired the head of worldwide sales a long time ago. Everyone knew customer concentration and lack of a reseller sales model was hurting the company. I think it's obvious now that the board let Flynn go so they could clean house in the sales organization.
