    The NoWhere Ranch Part II

Something you might not realize fatty: More than 30% of the population of south Bakersfield commutes to LA to go to work every day.

Think about it....the future's not that hard to see.

Is this guy for real? Commuting from Bakersfield to LA DAILY? Are you kidding me? Isn't that about a 3 hour daily commute? Anyone doing this, please post. I want to refer you to a psychiatric facility.

    • I was the one who made the post. I don't live in So Cal (anymore), in fact, I'm kind of retired and don't even commute to work.

But I know I had my facts lined up regarding So Cal commuting practices as the responses to your post indicate. People have, and will, commute for hours one way. I agree it might be a little insane, but what segment of our society isn't a little out there these days?

Looking at your photo it looks like the only commuting you're doing these days is from the refrigorator to the couch. I really wouldn't preach if I were you.

      • To M&B:

TRC longs don't take to doubt, and they don't have a sense of humor. So, fasten your seat belt. But then, you've already called me a liar, so I don't have much sympathy for you. But I think I'd rather be called a liar than a doubter on this board. The sentencing guidelines are much more lenient for liars.

    • It's roughly 90 minutes depending on traffic. I live further north of Bakersfied and I an 3hrs. The building boom here in the Valley is largely based on commuters to LA, San Jose, San Francisco. What you need to make and what employers pay in order to live and own a home what other choice do they have? Until recently as gas prices have risen I hear many are just walking away and moving back to town per se and now paying just the rent!

      • I live and work in Thousand Oaks. I am one of the lucky ones who bought a house here back in 1998 when it was still reasonable. Some of my co-workers are not so lucky. Commuting from Palmdale and Lancaster to Thousand Oaks is very common here. A couple of them were driving all the way in from Frazier Park! And that's about 2.5 hours one way with no traffic!
