    daVinci w/FireFly avoids reoperation

boilerroom is obviously too full of hot air to take the time to read the article. Nonetheless, the irrelevant, golden retriever story did start me wondering at what point will robotic surgery start being used in veterinary surgeries?

Human medical technologies steadily migrate to animal use but the cost for a da Vinci system today is prohibitive. At what point does the cost/benefit ratio make sense? At half the current cost? At a quarter? Probably nothing but new competition pressuring costs will make that happen. On the other hand, greater benefit might be had with more and better pediatric sized tools or newer, compelling technologies like Firefly.

    • Bet the Beverly Hills Vets are already discussing where they are going to put their new DaVinci unit.

Medical tech migrates both ways. The consequences and regulations are looser in veterinary medicine allowing more creative latitude and innovation.
