Really think tunnel tolls will drive future development north to Norfolk/Va. Beach
• Portsmouth side values will plunge.
• Downtown Norfolk revival could really pick up steam, since Portsmouth won't bleed off business. You know they have a nice little section there for conventions in Old Towne ... that will be toast now.
• Then businesses will move to Norfolk/Virginia Beach.
• Commuters will move to Va.Beach/Chesapeake.
All in all tolls are a net positive for HBKS. Great planning to keep the branches closer together without crossing any water.
Toll impact on tourists is huge, as most won't have an E-Z Pass. The ERC takes a picture of your license plate and tacks $3.18 on to your toll bill. So it's $5.02 just to drive through the tunnel. Plenty of sites to see in Norfolk and Va. Beach; better restaurants too. Remember The Circle closed.
