    The problem with oil nuts is that people believed them

    Biofuels take far too much land to replace more than a small fraction of our liquid fossil fuels.

    And that is even more the case if you consider only the economically viable ethanol such as Brazilian ethanol as opposed to the economically fradulent ethanol made from corn.

    It's possible that scientists will develop strains of plants that convert solar energy efficiently enough for biofuels to play a lot bigger role. Some sort of "super algae" or such.

    That is all pure speculation at this stage, so far to my knowledge there is no scientific breakthrough that has been made in that field.
