The gyspy jazz thing is very particular and the guitars have a very unique sound... I am pretty sure you can do Django on an archtop more easily than you can do Wes on a Selmer. LOL
However, I think Robert Johnson would translate exceptionally well to a Selmer... as would the much of ragtime and into the 40s jazz. Old-school, but cool!
Ill probably buy an archtop someday... before a selmer. I have a Martin for unplugged Clapton style... it sounds awesome and plays great with new strings, but 2 days later... blah. My Tele is an old war-horse but can cover a lot of ground. My Schecter is really best for noise/distortion/dive-bombs and squeals. It will do blues, but jazz is not its forte.
I am more of a blues/rock player moving towards jazzy, but I get a lot of inspiration from the gypsy jazz stuff -- amazing arpeggios, a lot of diminished chords, minors, 6/7/9... its really a very jazzy blues with harmonic minors, some latin feeling... and ripping riffs. Django Lives!
