I don't know what the future holds for OXY shares, but here's my own personal OXY success story. In the early 1990's, I invested about $20,000 in OXY stock and never had the dividends reinvested. Today, about 20 years later, these shares are worth $240k, a twelve bagger. But the neat thing is that they now pay me between $7k-8k in dividends annually. Hey, the dividends that I have received from OXY, during the time I have owned the shares, have more than paid me back for my original $20k investment, actually the dividends have paid me back much more. So, now, I'm sitting on $240k worth of OXY shares that were virtually free.
One must exercise patience with OXY. Between 1903 and 2002, the pps of these shares was stagnant. I often wondered why I was holding on to them, with the dot.com fad raging in the early 2000's. The dot.com stocks were exploding but my stodgy old oil stock just sat there, like a lump but paying steady dividends. Oh what a difference the last 10 years has made between the dot.com valuations and OXY.
How many times have you told this story by now? I think you post this story once a week, you do understand EVERY quality stock would have returned far greater returns during that time period, right? Coke, Microsoft, COP, XOM, you name it.
