the 2 big releases of Q4 - MW3 and BF3 - have masked over a sales shortfall that will start to hit GME hard in this next quarter. take a look at EA's earnings deck and it shows they lost $70 million in catalog sales. sure vg sales were OK in Q4 due to the release of 2 massive hardcore games, but that just masked over the sales problem by 1 quarter.
the next 2 quarters will be real tough for GME. the dividend is another gimmick that will help for a short time, but not solve the problems. best time to short this stock will be the day after activision earnings release (2 more days).
A dividend is a gimmick? You got to be kidding me next you will tell me they are debt free because they are cooking the books. BF 3 wasn’t even the second best selling game of the holiday period. There were an unprecedented amount of high selling AAA games released Holidays of 2011 that will sell very well used in Q1 2012.
Q 1 2012 has a better lineup Mass Effect 3 which will be released for the first time simultaneously on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Fifa Streets (new IP) will do well. The only notable release last year Q1 was Portal 2.
