Did not happen, eh? Well, do you have an adddress where I can return the extra shares I got when KMP split 2:1 on September 4, 2001? I guess I must refund all that extra distribution money, too. The split before that was October 2, 1997. Perhaps you are confusing KMP with one of the other Kinder Morgan entities.
KMP has never split going back to the 1992 IPO. What would make KMP to split? What are or is the advantage for a split. Usually it is for raising more capital by making the stock more affordable. The more outstanding stock, the volatility goes down. I may be guessing, but if you fallow APA, CVX and XOM you will see that the volatility of these 3 stocks is proportional to the number of outstanding available stock to trade. To me KMP will not split.
