Thanks Cycles Appreciate it & hope laser tv wouldn't turn out to be better than LCD... I for one, strongly believe that not the LCD glut is the reason behind the last few days fall but, the laser TV news... However, I am not going to give up on GLW and on any one of my almost 19K shares... Let's hope for better days.
Image, I have ried to research Laser TV but was unable to find out much.
Merck is constructing a $13.9 million LCD research center in South Korea. That isn't a lot of money for Merck but it is still nice to see them bullish enough on the future of LCD display to invest in R&D.
SEOUL, Jul 09, 2008 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- MKGAY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Merck KGaA, a German maker of liquid crystals used in flat-panel televisions, said Wednesday it has begun construction of a research laboratory in South Korea to meet the country's growing demand for the crystals.
Merck plans to spend 14 billion won (US$13.9 million) to build the facility in Boseong, 397 kilometers south of Seoul, where its plant is located, the company's Korean unit said in a statement.
"This new investment in Korea reconfirms our commitment and responsibility to contribute innovative solutions for the future success of the Korean display industry," said Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp, an executive at Merck, in the statement.
The German company didn't say when the facility will be completed. Officials at Merck's Korean unit weren't immediately available for comment.
South Korea is home to the world's top two manufacturers of liquid crystal display panels, Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Display Co.
As a matter of fact I bought some more yesterday since I had some cash in some of my accounts with Scottrade...That's what I did 8-9 years ago when it was going down from $300 to a couple of bucks...I am glad I listen to my wife & a poster of this board to buy more...(I was afraid of reverse split like they did at Razorfish etc if you recall) Thanks again for your great contribution to make GLW board a very useful info source(at least for me since I trust the people of this board more than I trust the analysts)
