This info from Sony's earnings warning possibly applies to Corning, as they do a lot of business with Samsung:
"Sony said it would revamp LCD panel procurement, but second-in-command Kazuo Hirai declined to comment on reports it would end a panel joint venture with Samsung Electronics."
"Sony said it expected TV losses to be 175 billion yen ($2.2 billion) this financial year, including a 50 billion yen impairment charge. It cut TV sales forecast by 9 percent to 20 million sets, its second reduction this year."
Well, we will see. Looks like the opening won't be too harsh, but definately won't be seeing $15 today :-)
Actually, ending a relationship with Samsung could be good. Samsung Corning (a JV) sells the glass to Samsung, so Corning only gets half the profit. If Sony were totally independent, buying glass from Corning, Corning would get all of the profit. Too bad Sony's sales are dropping, or it might be something worthwhile to think about.
