    Good source of Information

We view the transition to 3D mammograms to be just a matter of ``when''. We have no doubt that Hologic's new device is the machine of the future and that its orders will eventually accelerate. How long it will take institutions to make the switch and to successfully navigate the insurance bureaucracy to recoup their investment remain the key uncertainties. We estimate, that sometime (possibly in late 2014), the issue will mostly be resolved. Meanwhile,...

Efficiencies from the Gen-Probe acquisition are more than expected. Hologic acquired the maker of diagnostic products used in women's health late last year for nearly $4 billion. Annual cost saving were expected to be $40 million from combining the companies, but by next year, that figure could reach $60 million. These savings will help overcome a problem the company is having with its thin-strip cervical cancer product in China and the aforementioned 3D issue.

Hologic shares have long-term appeal. Wall Street has punished the company for falling to meet its expected 3D sales goals. As a result, the stock has barely budged this year compared to the nearly 16% gain in the market averages. We think that patient, risk-oriented investors willing to accept delayed acceptance of Hologic's new machines could be well-rewarded over the pull to 2016-2018. (Value Line)
