Gosh, look at the profile of Mr Emmens! and did you see what Jimmie-bob Cavanaugh said of him ?
"In our comprehensive search for the new Chief Executive of Shire we were looking for someone with the experience of working for a large global pharmaceutical company. We also wanted an individual who had a track record of working internationally. Matthew has these qualities and he also has solid experience of sales and marketing which will complement the existing team. His skills will enable him to continue to build on Shires remarkable record of success and allow us to take the company to the next level. His track record of outstanding creativity and solid leadership skills has been well established in a variety of settings, including both the formation of major new businesses and within large operating pharmaceutical companies. Matthew has considerable experience of building successful businesses.
Well big deal. All those attributes apply to Rolf Stahel, with the difference that he proved them in-post. Even Jimmy-bob says:-
"The board of directors also thanks Mr. Stahel for his significant contributions to Shire. He successfully led Shire for nearly nine years building it from a company with revenues of US$3 million in 1993 to over US$1 billion at the end of 2002 including the implementation of six acquisitions."
What a load of Tosh.
I recon this guy will just be a puppet to the 'faithful' non-execs in the U.S. - He could start by chucking out the dysfunctional senior management and then put in the right dynamic, charismatic, people to do the job properly.
....If he gets just partway through that recipe I'll be impressed.
Maybe this guy has an MBA from Harvard? Or better yet, Wharton?
Whoops, he has an undergraduate degree from Fairly Dickinson. Today, that would get you a great job in the executive sales training program at Macy's. I guess over the ocean, they aren't familiar enough with the schools to know that that is not an impressive school.
I wonder if he knows how to draw the chemical structure of carbon?

Fair deal....but did you realise that the famous & popular Ronald Nordmann is also a graduate from Fairly Dickinson.
Does this mean that the Shire board is collecting academically second division players?? - or do you think this is something to do with 'Old School Tie?'
BTW. Anyone looked at the listing of board members on the Shire web site. Not very impressive the way that they are reporting Stahel & his achievements!
Sounds like someone is has some jealousy issues with little ole Shire US Inc. Hey I did not graduate from Harvard, but it does not take Albert Einstein to see that this little company has had some serious success with the launch of their new product Adderall XR. Not to mention they have taken the market away from Concerta in only 1 year.
Well it does sound like you are part of the Lilly crew and that you have some serious jealousy issues with Shire. As far as sales forces go, it sounds like you must work for Lilly and if so, that would explain your frustration with Shire. I must say that I don't have the inside scope to what the Shire Reps are doing every day and what they are saying every day about Lilly/Strattera. All I know is what I see in my day to day practice and I what I have so far is Lilly 0 and Shire 1 (for ADHD). Come on, how great will a failed Anti Depressant be?
Ask Joe Biederman....oh hell he must not no anything.....yeah right!
I didnt think Strattera's data was all that great when I looked at it either, and the side effects sure in the heck would scare me from considering it as a viable theraputic option but I am not hearing that concern from a lot of docs. All of them say that the drug seems to be working, all be it with a few exceptions, but even the great Adderall Xr has not worked for all.
I realize that Biederaman is now on Lilly's team, but not so long ago he was on Shire's so if you attack his credibility in backing Strattera you must do the same for when he was backing Adderall Xr. I just find it hard to believe the guy would stake his reputation on a loser.
By the way I dont work for Lilly so jealousy is not a component in the truth I speak. I am just sitting back and enjoying the game.
Take care...and be wary of redneck ex-cellphone salesman with red sneakers and a sales presentation longer than the last Tom Clancy novel. Ahh....dont worry doc your paying customers wont mind that 30 minutes you spend talking with your Shire rep--they really do enjoy the wait.
