    In one of his Shareholder Letters, Buffett
    exlained he and his super-cat reinsurance guru, Ajit Jain,
    figured that a "worst case scenario" for Berkshire (i.e.,
    a massive California earthquake) would cost
    Berkshire around $1 billion, but that Berkshire has the
    financial wherewithal to easily sustain such a blow (or any
    lesser disaster). In fact, Berkshire has the highest net
    worth (shareholders' equity) of any corporation in the
    worth, and this financial strength allows Berkshire to
    take on very large super-cat reinsurance policies
    which other reinsurance companies simply cannot bear
    financially. In essence, Berkshire's financial strength gives
    it a virtual monopoly over the super-cat reinsurance
