On march 1st wife and I went down US hwy 385 from Holyoke Co to Burlington Co on a trip to AZ. we have used this road before. The oil wells are old , small pumpers and randomly scattered.visual from hwy 385.
At the Comfort Inn in Burlington , I ask the 30 yr old desk clerk about the oil well business in the last yr.. he indicated that the summer and fall of 2012 was busy with landmen as Burlington is the county seat for Kit Carson County..he also stated that the majority of the activity was going on in the North portion of Kit Carson and in Wray county to the North of Burlington ..
For people who have never travelled this part of Colorado it is all farming/ranching country and sparcely populated..
It will be interesting to see who/or when then the oil drilling expansion occurs.. don
The activity is not limited to east central area the southeast has seen some of activity in the last year, including:, Kiowa, Bent and Prowers counties. Last spring/summer all three of the county seats (Eads, Las Animas & Lamar) were over flowing with landmen hunting down the owners of the mineral rights.
I have a few mineral rights in northwest corner of Prowers county, that drew interest from several land men but they were already locked up by a few NG wells that are producing.
I keep an eye on the activity down there since I have a vested interest in it.
