I live in San Diego, and have tried to use several deals. One business refused to honor the voucher, adamantly claiming they had no idea what LiveDeal is. Coincidentally, they had the same offer running with yelp, just worded a little differently. Nobody I encountered knew who livedeal was, even owners / managers, but the offers were familiar to them (probably because they offer them in house or through somebody else).
I believe LiveDeal has simply researched restaurant websites and menus, yelp, foursquare, available coupons, etc. looking for deals and when they are valid. Then they "manually" post these deals on their site, portraying that it is their original content, when it is not.
They have claimed to "sign up" 20% of the San Diego market. This wording seems misleading, they are actually more of a deal aggregator compared to their claimed deal engine that will challenge groupon and others. I doubt customers are using LiveDeal, the deals do not provide a real value compared to what is already offered and LiveDeal is far too busy marketing their stock instead of their platform.
Don't believe me? Just call a few of their listed merchant locations and ask.
Also, they don't charge merchants or customers, how will they make money?? I have seen no mention of this.
I just checked it out from my house. The first few were in order, it definitely loaded my location, but after a few listings it jumps around, not accurate at all. I am pretty sure this feature will not work right until they have an app, and there is nothing special about loading your location.
