Diversification is the key word for me, most of us seniors or semi-seniors that have retired early probably just consider this one of many tools (in the mix) that will supply income and also protect our capital. I don't put any expectations for growth potential with this holding, if I want a tad more growth I would invest in a short-term bond fund or scope out other investment possibilities elsewhere. I mentioned before how nimble the Dodge & Cox Income fund is (look at the performance). The fund has 18 years up and 3 down with the worst year being down only 0.81%. I Just received my 0.14 quarterly dividend in two different retirement accounts this week.
Also check out berix, vwinx, vasix, hstrx, gabux, rpsix, jilcx, tgmnx, fsrrx and fsicx.....a nice mix for the income investor. I also hold a few others if anyone wants some more ideas.
I've been buying some tech the last few weeks (msft, hpq and intc) and also bought (3 weeks ago) some Abbott and Merck for a relative's IRA for the nice dividend.
Has anyone taken a position in the recently offered PowerShares Exchange-Traded leverage loan Fund (BKLN), if so what was their first dividend?
Are there any IPO investors on this board, curious about your ideas on some of the upcoming offerings possibly this year, they are Carbonite (on-line storage), Skype and Groupon. Any upcoming offerings that you are excited about? Thanks & good investing.
