From our pals on the left, it appears as long as it is a Obama drone...no problem. Those pesky Americans won't have to worry about the Patriot Act or being water boarded, they just get dead.
**even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S.**
Justice Department memo reveals legal case for drone strikes on Americans
NBC News: A confidential Justice Department memo concludes that the U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be “senior operational leaders” of al-Qaida or “an associated force” -- even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S.
The 16-page memo, a copy of which was obtained by NBC News, provides new details about the legal reasoning behind one of the Obama administration’s most secretive and controversial polices: its dramatically increased use of drone strikes against al-Qaida suspects abroad, including those aimed at American citizens, such as the September 2011 strike in Yemen that killed alleged al-Qaida operatives Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan. Both were U.S. citizens who had never been indicted by the U.S. government nor charged with any crimes.
And under whose authority were those drones ordered and built and given their role in the war on terror? Ooops, and what President has managed to overuse them in areas where they've as much contributed to the problem as helped solve it? Ohhhh.
You can hand a leader an effective weapon (Schwalbe) and then watch as he mis-uses it (as a bomber) even though it still functions in that role, it would have been better used in another (fighter superiority). So far Obama is horribly misusing the drone program by allowing it to ENTIRELY replace boots on the ground. You can't win a counter insurgency by occupying the cities and ceding the countryside, and you certainly can't do it by simply dominating airspace. All you do is drive the activity underground (Cu Chi).
If you didn't get EVERY reference in parenthesis you shouldn't even be talking about this subject.
Then again I guess there aren't many people with insurgency/counterinsurgency experience on this board.
Many more "bodies" have been lost in Afghanistan during Obamas frst four years in office than both of Bush's terms. I do however agree with dropping a J-dam from a drone on Anyone whom wages war against this country and joins the enemy , American or not. These knuckleheads need to be killed on the battlefield since it is now against the law to interrogate them properly.
No - I don't think the government has the right to kill people. It's own citizens especially.
State, Local or Federal.
I don't think they have the right to do it regardless of "due course".
I think it is sad that American People have so willingly gave away their own rights in exchange for protection from imaginary foe that does less harm to the nation than peanut allergy....
I think it is particularly sad since the actual event that prompted all this may have been very well manufactured for that purpose alone (by whom - is debatable - but the end result is unquestionable - the public was cowed into giving away it's most cherished rights).
Drones save lives. Mostly our own troops.
You'd rather do it Bush style. Throw American bodies at his made up war.
And then ignore them when they come home in a box.
Why does bidder hate our troops so much ?
The media is way too busy preparing their "Valentines Day" Love ya cards for Obama and half of the country is too busy with all their free goodies from the U S tax payers to care........If it was Bush or anybody with an "R" doing this you could bet on foaming at the mouth rage.
