On the surface it may appear ominous but RENT does not collect data, it just aggregates it. So having the new technology in the boxes ala Comcast and the new OCAP compliant Panasonic gear should be a boon to players like RENT. The issue that I am most concerned about however, is that RENT appears to have little to protect its intellectual property. I haven't seen any patents or significant trade secret type language bandied about anywhere. They seem to lay claim to great database technology, but I can't believe they invented something that eluded Oracle or IBM. Their interface is lauded by their clients, but that is hardly something you can protect. Does anyone else here have any insight?
