yes, probably a year before tso makes a decision on what to do. until then, anthem retains the contract. other contractors are cierra, foundation health, wps etc.... you are correct, champus is an acronym for civilian health and medical program for the uniformed services.
currently work for champus contractor. tso is the tricare support office, formally known as "o'champus" or the department of defense. tso may very well deny the recommendation from gao but it's highly unlikely.. final outcome could take as long as a year.
Aevans1998 -- a couple of questions for you....
How do you know this information about the protest? Have searched the internet, and haven't found anything about it.
What is TSO?
If it's only a recommendnation, then who's to say that this TSO? won't deny it?
contract was not overturned, a protest was "upheld". gao makes recommendation to tso for thier approval. not known at this time what was recommended by gao, government accounting office. this is not the same as a standard hmo contract, it is a givernmental contract for active duty dependents, retiress and their dependents and deceased dependents.
What do you mean when you say that the the contract was overturned? Do you think that HUM has a chance of winning -- I mean if they didn't win the first time, then it seems unlikely that they would win the second time...
900,000 lives -- Boy OH boy! That's almost 1/6 of HUM's membership right now!!!
The contract you are referring to is region 2 & 5. It was originally awarded to anthem but was just overturned about a week ago due to a protest filed by humana. It covers approximately 9000,000 lives 60% of which is in north carolina & virginia. Nobdy knows what will happen with the rebid but it looks like humana has a second chance. It would be a nice addition in the expansion of this product line.
