  • Any recent Prudential rumors?

    • I was at a meeting today with Pru and as far as they know in South Florida, Pru's fate will either be a buy from Humana (less likely as time goes on), a leveraged buyout from top management or no change.
Pru claims to be beginning to make money on its health business but who knows.... There are ways of massaging numbers.

    • on whether the speculation regarding the purchase of PRU or other news is affecting the stock of HUM today--stock is pulling back of its recent highs and I have been unable to find any news that would justify the drop.

May just be profit taking, but I wanted to see if anyone had any news or info.

    • As a former Humana employee, I doubt that Humana will buy all of Pru. Humana's stock price has been climbing to all time
highs recently and I think a full buy of Pru would drop the price quite a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if Humana bought certain
core markets in following with Humana's mission of being the dominant player in the markets it is in, but a full buy of a
financially ailing Pru would drag down the stock price. Greg Wolf, CEO of Humana is dead set determined to bring value to shareholders.

      We'll see...

    • As a former employee of Pru I have numerous friends who are nervously waiting for the boards decision. It seems it is down to a LBO by Steve Schulman, CEO or a merger with Humana.
The announcement is imminent but they were saying that in 1997.

    • The rumor I hear is that Humana is responding to Aetna's purchase of NYLCare with its own bid to purchase all of Prudential's managed care lives nationwide. Anyone else sniffing same???

    • Now, that's a possibility.

    • I am a former (recent) Humana employee and I don't see any way they could take over UNH. However, I do know the new Humana
managment is excellent and will add value to shareholders. Some things are out of Humana's control such as Medicare reinbursements
from HCFA but overall, things look real good for this company in relation to all competitors. If I had to bet long term it would
be Humana, United Healthcare & maybe Wellpoint although I dont't know too much about Wellpoint. Humana is making a point of
selling products such as disability, term life and dental insurance which are all high margin benefits. This is definately a stock
to at least hold if not buy more long term.

    • someone who works for United Health Care brought to my attention that they believe that Humana and U.N.H. will be announcing something on April, 1. They believe Hum will be taking over UNH. Is it possible for a company one third the size to do this? If this is correct is the price already in these issues.

    • A possible scenario is that Prudential goes through the process of becoming a publicly traded company and divests itself of the health plan in a seperate IPO with its own management structure. I heard the asking price is too rich and thus neither Humana nor Wellpoint will touch it at that level. However, there may be another national player out there who may surface.

      • Something big is going on at Humana. They want to be the dominant player in the markets they are in. However, they will not sacrifice sound pricing to become dominant so they must aquire "critical mass" of enrollees through acquisition.
I wouldn't be too suprised if they get not only Pru but perhaps even Oxford. I suspect Oxford because they have large enrollments in that part of the country which Humana does not, mainly the Northeast.

The new management team will give shareholders value.....
