I have a new pharmacist, and the guy working was nice enough to share his thoughts on ZGNX and a lot on drugs in general. I left with a warm fuzzy feeling but in addition I learned a lot about where we are currently on the supply chain with Zohydro. He said that currently the wholesalers are on the verge of being in possession of the drug and chain stores have ordered it. He said he has some on the way on consignment because the company is pushing it so hard they made exceptions for single stores to have some product. He says doctors call every day waiting for when it is available.
Also worth noting he said that compound pharmacies could have made single entity hydrocodone or really anything for that matter prior to this. I didn't know that. So last week some doctor could prescribe hydrocodone and a compounding pharmacy could've made it. Interesting.
They could try to make an extended release hydrocodone if they were a big compounding pharmacy but state laws dictate that we cannot make large batches of commercially available products. If they made more than 100 capsules a day, the fda and dea would be all over them, especially since it's a control.
