I just posted this in response to: "U.S. to let banks do business with licensed pot shops": it bears repeating:

Fact: Marijuana is a 'gateway' drug and, therefore, should be legalized and controlled-- like alcohol and tobacco. I unknowingly was introduced to heroin and then angel dust because certain 'friends' laced the pot ahead of time in order, likely, to get me hooked on what they were probably pushing. But I was old enough to fight off the addictions before they gained control, since I had already quit smoking cigarettes and drinking. And I had real friends who clued me in on what to expect. Teenagers and kids weren't, and aren't, so fortunate. Drug pushers know this only too well. When I got out of the Air Force pot was a ten dollar fine in Ann Arbor, Michigan, not much more than a parking ticket, but never quite legal or safe to use. Prohibition in the 20's brought about wood alcohol deaths and the original drive-by shootings (on running boards w/Tommy guns). Marijuana is modern day America's equivalent to the British Empire's tea and opium subsidized shipping (James Michener's "Rascals in Paradise") and the U.S. trading guns for drugs during the Viet Nam war (James Clavell's "Whirlwind") tipped the balance in our struggle for supremacy against communism. Cheap shipping is no excuse for facilitating addicting our children. God is watching us, from a distance.

    • apparently big bad wolf used his #$%$ portal as a gateway for his head. recommend you install a glass naval.

    • You are wrong on every level. Marijuana is as safe if not safer than alcohol yet it is illegal? The only thing prohibition succeeded in was creating the Mafia. Good job government! All they did my making Marijuana illegal is give the gangs and drug cartels the power instead of the corporations. People will do drugs no matter what if they are legal or illegal. ~90% of my high school did drugs and I was the exception by CHOICE, not because it was illegal.

Now people are doing more dangerous synthetic drugs that cannot be detected on drug tests because marijuana is illegal and the cartels are making all the money! GOOD JOB! A+!

God also watched from a distance during the "separate but equal" era which was a WHOLE LOT WORSE than someone smoking some pot. I would add marijuana is a whole lot safer than all those pain meds big pharma is shoving down are throats. I could go on and on about your ignorance but I'll stop here.

    • Amen bro. I watched many friends fall to dope and alcohol in the past. In CA. it was a 1-10 year felony rap for marijuana. I was afraid of the stuff and never even wanted to try it. By the way "our?" government is still involved in the dope trade. Currently most of the heroin is being made from opium shipped out of Afghanistan under our protection. It is refined in two mid-eastern countries for shipment. They world wide distribution was set up by Meyer Lansky of the old "Murder Inc." gang while he exiled himself for some years in one of those two countries. Noriega had a man named Harari whispering in his ear from that same country while he facilitated the cocaine flights from Columbia through Panama and into Mena, Arkansas. Look up "Operation High Tower." My son had contact with the Army Col. that set it up before he was murdered in the Phillipines This same "Harari" just happened to be there when he was killed.

You may FEEL like he’s watching you…but I’m pretty sure it’s just the PCP. Wait 10 hours or so and the Divine Hubble will wear off.

      • The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
        ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006
