Could somebody explain how Zynga makes money off games like this or Chefville, etc.? Lots of developers and maintenance for a free game. What's the revenue stream on this? Selling virtual goods to spruce up your "Ville?"
Much of it, yes.
The model does well even in mid/hard core games (mostly free to play MMO game engines coming from Korea, China, Japan and being licensed elsewhere).
The only problem with Zynga's coaster is it only goes downhill

Saw it this morning. Had the game been something mildly original, I think today would have been a bit different.
