    Edison Schools Doesn't Get Contract Renewed In Dallas

    NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Edison Schools Inc. (NasdaqNM:EDSN - News) lost its bid to continue running seven Dallas schools last week. ADVERTISEMENT




    An official from the Dallas Independent School District confirmed to Dow Jones Newswires that its board vetoed renewing the contract.

    Edison Schools officials weren't immediately available for comment.

    Earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal reported that Dallas Superintendent Mike Moses recommended terminating its contract with the company, citing the costs and lack of academic progress.

    The New York City-based company operates about 80 public schools in 16 states and Washington, D.C., which include charter and contract schools.

    Shares of Edison School recently changed hands at 56 cents, down 11 cents, or 11%, on volume of 3.3 million. Average daily share volume is 1.2 million.
