Internet Radio (All of it)
Mel (CEO and Radio Genius) does not feel Pandora is competition, nor does he feel it is worth accumulating. SIrius XM Could buy out Pandora with 1 Q of FCF right now. Mel doesnt want it. Smart guy. Why? Too easy to include a similar program through their own company, and has stated they are capable of doing it.
Notice I didnt name Pandora or Slacker as competition. Why? Cause they arent radio companies. Radio is a media company, internet music generators are just that, random music generators.
They compete in their own class, internet music players (LastFM, I heart Radio, slacker, and EVERY INTERNET RADIO STATION IN THE WORLD(radio is a loose term, I wouldnt use it). CBS Radio does not consider Pandora competition either. No one in the media industry does.
no, the street is pumping the Pandora IPO by labelling it competition for Sirius XM. 3.1 billion in revenue. 80 million in revenue. FCF of over 300 million for 2011 projected. Total value of Pandora IPO, 100 million. LOL AHAHHAHAHHAHAHHA
Once Pandora is being dumped, and institutions are done accumulating sirius, they will be bashing it as another .com failure. Watch and learn.
Who is saying Pandora is competition is the problem. No one I know or respect. Tons of analysts actually are on board right now with discounting any effect from Pandora. hence all the price upgrades, credit upgrades, rising SP. Facts are facts.
Also, Mel could buy pandora tomorrow, why doesnt he? Cause its a money drain, thats why. Being bagholdered, why buy it. Just create your own service for pennies on the dollar, and have NO ads. LOL AHAHAHAHAHHA
Street also was pushing mortgage backed secrutities on the world for 3 years straight. Lets throw out what the street thinks in general. The street is ur SP, and its going up. All that matters.
No, they also have exclusive content and a broad audience base. Rush, Jim Rome, Michael Savage, Colin Howheard, JT The Brick. They still pay these talents millions of dollars. They have DJs, live interaction, influence over artists, record companies, access to live events , interviews with artists, sports and talk radio.
Sirius XM is killing terrestrial radio, not pandora. If pandora never existed, Terrestrial radio would be in the exact same situation they are in right now.
So once again, no Pandora is not competition for terrestrial radio. I will say that since it is free, and their content does mostly suck, it is more competition for them than Sirius XM.
You could convince me their is a minor drain , (very minor) away from terrestrial radio for pandora, but if you want to listen to ur local sports team, find out weather, of traffic, ur turning on ur local radio station, not a random music generator.
Why? no exclusive content. No audience interaction. No sports, no talk radio. No DJS. No influence on artists. No talking to new artists, no sponsering concerts, no giving away tickets, nothing. Just the same 10 artists, playing the same 10 songs over and over. Thats not a media company. Siruis XM offeres EXCLUSIVE CONTENT. No one else can offer. And complete N. American coverage now. Data services, On STAR, traffic services, weather, you name it.
Pandora is competition for Slacker.
I hope that 2.0 will make conversations like these moot. You are right when you say they can't compete, however by merely having a presence it might impact us in some way. You knew that the anti SiriusXM crowd would pick up on this IPO and run with it. We know talk is cheap and the bottom line will show this quarter after quarter. I believe that having two competitors in the space will help to prove our dominance and boost our pps. I say let them compare every quarter and try to sell them as a competitor. Got that relmor, pro Sirius. Don't remember Sirius having to stoop as low as to employ sales staff to push our product.
