His article is interesting today but does anyone else remember a little company called Memory Pharmaceuticals? Targacept should sell off the pipeline and distribute cash to the shareholders. It has been failure after failure. The only reason I might have confidence is that the trial was in Europe...perhaps we can get a false positive readout!
I remember Memory Pharmaceuticals very well and they had an alpha 7 candidate in clinical trials with Roche for the negative symptoms of schizophrenia that apparently failed because Roche no longer profiles it. Why does Targacept management never mention this program when discussing their own program? Why should we believe? I feel like Targacept expects people to just accept that it 'might' work but that's not good enough. Investors lost a fortune on the depression candidate when the results couldn't be replicated. Why should we believe at all when Memory had an alpha 7 for the same indication with Roche that DID NOT advance? All molecules are unique, but still. If they want us to believe then compare and contrast because no one is going to believe without a little info on what differentiates this program.
