Not trying to pump, but does anyone have any insights to SBLK potentially being acquired? It would seem that we are in fact at a turning point in the shipping cycle, and now would be a reasonable time for industry consolidation to occur as rates push higher. SBLK's new building contracts have already appreciated, according to comments made on the last conference call.
Regardless, the Company seems well-positioned at this point for a rebound. Any thoughts on the matter?
i seriously doubt Oaktree took its position here for a trade. they're smart enough to know how much money can be made when the cycle is right. with ownership near 22% now, nothing is going to happen that they don't want.
I tend to agree- although at the same time- it would be hard to turn down a quick buck if someone was offering, especially in an industry that seems extremely cyclical. From this last downturn, the existing shareholders from the last few years came close to getting wiped out, and even with the recent appreciation, we still got a long way to go to break even. Hopefully management can better deal with the next cycle or maybe it's just part of the way this business is.
