Recently I established a position in SYY at $22.65. This morning I had a conversation with a SYY driver of 14 years at my local gas station/general store here in Northern Napa Valley/Clear Lake area. Some highlights from that conversation:
1). Overall numbers are holding-up, big boys like casinos, resorts (e.g. Konocti), etc..., have taken a fairly large hit. However, smaller customers like Mom/Pop stores and eateries are doing as well as last year this time.
2). Overall mood/morale seems to be strong, drivers that were laid-off earlier this year have been brought-back within the last few weeks.
3). The price of diesel being 10+% less than regular has been a nice tail-wind. He was unaware of any hedging that may come-off at the local depots in Fremont and Santa Rosa.
