I would not call it a major update. Clients probably put pressure on INVN to protect their interests, and INVN is doing the right thing. STM is just trying to put all kinds of pressure. Notice STM is not suing Samsung, etc. because they are their clients as well and they do not want to upset that relationship.
This whole area of patents has gone completely out of hand with companies filing patents left and right on the smallest of stuff, on existing knowledge, etc. and then using it as a tool to try to crush or depress competition.
