    • Apple will go with Intel (silverton, baytrail) for Iphones and tablets, simply because they will be better chips which Intel can deliver reliably. Every other foundry is unreliable.

    • Read the transcript ASML UBS presentation - it's very specific in regards TSMC prepping for one large customer...
just like with Apple laptops using x86 I can see Apple using x86 for high end in tablets and in high end phones -
just a couple months ago the rumor was Apple dumping Intel ...
Besides I pad is being cannibalized...x86 IPad versus x86 surface...ultrabooks?
And in return provide bleeding edge to ARM? Intel - don't shoot your eye out -
this kind of detail in regards of Apple/Intel deal "leaked" out ?
      No - it's just a guess
all that negativity over the last few months and now "suddenly" Intel is holding the cards -
I rather see a CSCO foundry deal -

quote from ASML referring to TSMC fab for Apple:
they might suggest that there could be a fab work or about 40,000, 45,000 wafer starts to put in, which in the mid 2013 and mid 2014, and 45,000 wafer start fab at 20 nanometer is about €1 billion
(US 1.3 billion) in little (litho) investment. Again versus the 600 or so for the 28-nanometer investment, it’s quite substantial.

That wouldn't be a bad deal for both parties as the A6 is a better phone chip than a tablet one as it is orientated more to performance/power than outright performance, it would also save Apple having to do 2 designs each year. They also wouldn't have to worry about unreliable foundries.

    • This guys gets it. Apple hates Samsung so bad that they could move to Intel as a result.

One would believe that Apple recognizes that Samsung is their main competition and they would like to eliminate giving business to someone who is competing for the same marketshare. An agreement with Intel allows Apple to leverage their leading edge process technology and create more technology separation from the Android camp lead by QCOM/NVDA/MRVL which rely on the same TSMC/GF foundry capability.
