Intel buying back lots of shares

Saw in the news that Intel spent $4.8 B and bought back 191 million shares last year. They also have slightly increased divs each year and now pay 4.1% which is pretty high for their sector, so what's not to like? I just increased my holdings twice in the past month and the company as far as I'm concerned delivered exactly what I expected.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • It just makes the earnings drop so much bigger an issue.

Even buying back 191 million shares, EPS was still down 25% - so had they not bought back shares, EPS would have been even lower. This is called manufacturing earnings and is frowned upon by most.

    • Market doesn't care, we are entering into a bear market. The obviousness you see is the same thing everyone sees, therefore "priced" in. Will go lower, too many peole bought in for the great divy. Will end up not making any money on it due to the reduction in price in the short term. ten years out, sure but not now.
