Market viewing Intel Manufacturing as a liability not an asset
Paul O. made a big PR mistake by saying at the call Manufacturing is Intel's biggest asset. The manufacturing economy is backwards thinking. We are in the digital, knowledge economy. As an Intel engineer/designer, I would be offended by his statement. Intel's business model is being trashed by the market. Paul O has failed to monetize Intel's Fabs. We better hope the new CEO gets it.
I'm wondering if getting a CEO that has engineering background will help the perception on Intel by large investors. Even though Ottelini has done some great things with Intel, the investors have not raised the stock level above the $30 mark at all during his term as CEO. Maybe he knew this. Which is why he may have decided to allow a new CEO to take his place. I agree that it should be someone from within. Hopefully it's one with an engineering background since we already have a financial person in the CFO spot.
