BIG day of news for INTC

    - LTE 4G shipping first half of 2013
    - 7" Asus Fonepad announced
    - Altera deal

The availability of the XMM 7160 is big news. We will see LTE 4G Intel-inside phones and tablets in US market this year. CloverTrail+ already far outperforms ARM right now (Antutu of around ~24000) and Merrifield by holiday season will double performance, which will far outperform even Tegra 4. For sure Intel will be inside either Apple's next iPhones and iPads...or Motorola's next generation phones and tablets. Lenovo and Asus will carry Intel-inside products for Asian market.

As you can see from the benchmarks below, even Merrifield will struggle to beat Tegra 4 across all benchmarks

      Sunspider: 962 (lower is better)

      Tegra 4
      AnTuTu: 36127
      Quadrant: 16449
      Sunspider: 506 (lower is better)

      • I think he meant Bay Trail not Merrifield as that will be the first new Atom implementation and Intel have already said it will have double CT+ performance so I don't think it will do any struggling ;-). Also what was tested above was a Tegra 4 tablet test platform which obviously does not have to be tuned power wise to be a usable tablet and which might slug those numbers you gave in a real world design. Also A15's Sunspider numbers have been all over the place depending on o/s and browser so are they under the same conditions ? It's obvious A15 can be a powerful mobile processor at times but has that come at the expense of too much power ? CT+ is a very efficient performance/power design, let's see how A15 compares in a real world phone for battery usage when it is asked to work hard for long periods of time.

      • I see that you are referencing Antutu, now that it suits your argument.

As I said, Merrifield will double in performance. We will see how Tegra 4 compares to it. I'm thinking Antutu for Merrifield will be well over 40,000.
