First in May, Intel introduces Silvermont microarchitecture and the specs blew away everyone's expectations. Here's the summary:
Dual core (1W) at same performance use 2.4x less power than competition (this is in terms of projected future competition when Merrifield comes out). At same power, performs 1.6x the speed of competition.
Intel's quad core beauties either giving twice the performance at the same power level or 4.3x less power at the same performance. This again is comparing against projected competition when Bay Trail comes out...just incredible.
Then earlier this month, Intel unveils Haswell. Again, the specs are just unreal. The most notible Haswell product, which are shipping to end customers right now, are the MacBook Airs. The 11" version offer 70% more battery life (9 hours) and the 13" offer 80% more battery life than the previous (12 hours). Expectations are rising fast now....with this major improvement in battery life, we will see a major PC refresh like we have not seen for a long long time.
