SO... IF CHINA'S ECONOMY GOES INTO A MAJOR DOWNTURN...

Does that bode well for future sales in that country? Almost every investment newsletter I read these days talks about the coming collapse of the Chinese economy. I wonder if the Chinese know their economy is collapsing? Maybe somebody should tell them. I keep hearing about the shutdown of their shadow banking system, their polluted and dead rivers and lakes, the dislocation of millions of self sustaining farmers to the cities, their aging demographics, the institutional corruption, the skimming of billions of dollars from the government run businesses into the hands of the ruling elite.... (sounds like the USA under Obama to me).

So Elon is going to bet the future of Tesla on the Chinese economy? Sounds like he's building on pretty shaky ground to me. I wonder if China will nationalize Tesla's plant in the event of a shooting war with Japan over the South China sea? I guess they need to build one first - then I'll have something to worry about. They'll probably build the Chinese factory about the time they roll out the gen 3 car in 2020 or build the giga battery factory in 2025. You have to wear special glasses to be able to see that far into the future - and to be able to project the income stream from such ventures. Wonder where I can get a pair of those glasses? Think they'll give me a pair if I buy a model S from them?

In the meantime, US sales continue to erode. But the good news is, Tesla can't keep up with demand - I smell a rat.

Some of what you say real, but only partly and pertains to parts of China. What people completely ignore is the China's size -- a billion people, which is more than the population of Europe. There are many opposing directions for the economy, industry etc. So whatever you read is a distortion unless it is written by someone who has spent time there, not as a reporter only. I have been to China on several speaking tours, with freedom to explore without guides and can tell you that things change so fast there it makes your head spin and nothing is exactly like it is here. So it is hard for us to predict anything. Chinese are like Elon in one sense -- point out a flaw and they aren't going to deny it exists. They start to fix it. They are invested in reducing car pollution because they do love their kids. On a weekend, Beijing has sunny, blue skies, as people go home to suburbs and stay away from the city.

      • the U.S. and Europe have been in a "global recession" starting back in 2008...that's 6 years...

and into WHAT TIME PERIOD HAVE TESLAS BEEN "SELLING EXTREMELY WELL" ...DESPITE THIS DOWNTURN IN THE ECONOMY!!!

that's because THE MKT NICHE TESLA IS SELLING TO... there are still "great numbers of people" IN THIS NICHE MKT THAT HAVE MONEY!!!

this is NOT the "ford/chevy JOE-SIX-PACK MASS MKT (which has LOST huge consumer purchasing)...

SO... THE SAME GOES FOR CHINA (THERE WILL BE "PLENTY OF WELL-HEELED CHINESE" TO BUY TESLA ...

AND LETS NOT FORGET THAT during the "U.S. AND EUROPEAN DECLINE" ...IN THE WORST OF THIS (where CHINA loss a bit to the DECLINE OF THEIR MAIN MASS MKT CONSUMER PURCHASER..."the lower/middle class American consumer...WELL CHINA
STILL HAD "POSITVE GDP OF 7.5% ALL DURING THIS WESTERN ECONOMY GLOBAL FINANCIAL DECLINE...

SO...I WOULDN'T BE WORRIED ABOUT "TESLA" DOING WELL IN CHINA ...we WISH WE HAD A GDP OF 7.5 % (IN FACT WE'D PROBABLY CONSIDER THAT "HIGHLY INFLATIONARY"

SO WHEN CHINA HAS THE "SAME KIND OF TRUE NEGATIVE GDP THAT WE HAVE" (you don't really believe the numbers our Fed gives you... do you... IF YOU SUBTRACT TRUE DEBT AND BUDGET DEFICITS...WE HAVE "NEGATIVE GDP"...SO I WOULDN'T BE WORRYING ABOUT A "SLOWING DOWN IN CHINA A BIT"...THEY GOT A "HUGE GDP CUSHION (AND THAT'S THE KANDI LOWER-END MASS MKT) ...MUCH LESS SO...IS THERE ANY PROBLEM "WITH THE KIND OF PEOPLE" IN CHINA THAT WILL BE PURCHASING TESLAS LIKE GANGBUSTERS... AS FAST AS ELON MAKES THEM FOR THAT MKT...AND FOR YEARS TO COME.... even if "they slow a bit" ...it won't change "nothin'
with respect to TESLA's huge coming success in CHINA...

        YOU LOSE AGAIN "SHORT"....
